2021 Perform Holiday Programme

May 26, 2021

Wellington Hockey is pleased to announce that our Perform Holiday programme is returning for its 3rd edition!

In 2021 the programme will be headlined by former New Zealand player and coach Chris Leslie. Chris has led many National Age Group campaigns and camps while also being the National Women’s assistant coach from 1998-2007 then again from 2009-2019.  Chris has accumulated a wealth of experience and knowledge over the years from numerous international events including World Cups, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games.  He has also worked for Canterbury Hockey overseeing their Performance space and working with the best players and coaches in the association.

With Chris leading the design and content of the course, the 2021 Perform Holiday Programme will offer a new level of expertise for Wellingtons hockey players. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to be coached by one of the leading coaches in the country!

WHEN:

U13s (Year 7 & 8) - Monday 19th and Wednesday 21st July (9-3pm)

Secondary - Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd July (9-3pm)

All sessions are held at the National Hockey Stadium.

Both days will have different focus areas and cover different content.

WHAT:

The WHA PERFORM programmes are development days that will connect our aspiring youth with one of the best coaches in the country. The programmes will be led by 50 cap Black Stick Chris Leslie (1984-1989). Not only having played at the highest level, Chris has also spent the best part of 20 years involved in the Black Stick Women's programme as an assistant coach. Outside of the National programme Chris has led numerous national age group campaigns and camps. He has also led the Performance space for Canterbury Hockey during most of this time. With his vast knowledge and experiences from many performance environments this opportunity for our young players to be connected with one of the best coaches in the country should not be passed up! Chris will be well supported by some of our elite players and coaches from Wellington to form a strong coaching team. There will be a focus on technical skills and key tactical concepts, with a balance of honing in on some critical basic skills whilst also learning new skills and ideas.

WHY:

WHA wants to provide a meaningful and affordable development opportunity for youth in the wider Wellington region. With the WHA Is Season Development Programme just around the corner, this is a fantastic opportunity for any aspiring player to receive high level coaching and get some quality time on the turf. The July holiday window times well with the U13 and U15 representative programmes commencing shortly after, providing a perfect preparation into those programmes.

WHO:

The WHA PERFORM programmes are a development opportunity for any local player (field players and goal keepers) that wish to improve their game and enjoy some further time on the turf. Players must register and attend the appropriate age related programmes, following the usual representative age group criteria.

With U13 and U15 representative programmes just around the corner, what better way to learn some new skills and grow your game than from one of the best in the country!

The cost is $65 for one day, or $120 for both days.
