Sporting Edge SPHL Finals Night

September 25, 2020

Its finals night of the Sporting Edge SPHL tonight at NHS and we have some high-quality games lined up for your viewing pleasure! With us now back in level 1, the gates are open so make sure you get along to see how the teams fare in their last games of the season. The first final of the night getting underway at 5pm on Cello NHS 1, is the P2 girls final between Aotea College and Wellington Girls College and this could be the game of the night! To say matchups between these two teams this year have been close is an understatement with only one outright victory in three meetings so far. This went the way of Aotea as did the shootout win only two weeks ago.

Next up on Cello NHS 1 is the P1 girls final between Wellington Girls College and Paraparaumu College at 6.30pm. WGC are chasing a 100 goal season some insiders have claimed so they could be in the mood for some attacking play. Paraparaumu themselves are not shy on playing some attacking hockey either and have the impressive Mandy Yeo up front who will be one to watch.

The P2 boys final will see Wellington College take on Hutt Valley High School on McDonalds Newtown NHS 2 at 6.30pm in what will likely be another close run contest, with the HVHS edging Coll in a shootout the last time these two teams met. Expect nothing less in this game.

The last final on the night is the P1 boys grade with Wellington College taking on Onslow College. Coll would certainly head in as favorites in this one as Onslow’s dream run over the past month has just continued, surprising many, but it certainly would have built their confidence. There are plenty of other matches that will be high quality around these games, so there is plenty of action at NHS tonight for your last chance to view secondary hockey for 2020. Best of luck to all teams and especially those Year 13s who will be playing their final game of College hockey.
