WHA are going to start sharing a weekly newsletter with all relevant information about the programmes that we are running and any information we need to share with you all.
We are also happy to share any great things that are happening in our community, so if you have any stories that need telling please let us know.
Week 1 is below……
Participation Fund //
Wellington Hockey staff and Board are delighted to announce the release of our Participation Fund Appeal.
When we ran our survey in early May, the results showed that of the 9% of people that weren’t planning to play Hockey this year, 40% were not going to do so due to financial reasons.
We obviously want everyone to be able to play, and so the idea of the Participation Fund was born.

The form can be filled in by clubs or individuals. All money paid out will be given directly to the participants club towards payment of fees, or held as a credit for a WHA programme.
Holiday Programmes //
WHA is excited to announce the following offerings, with something for everyone:
Kid's Holiday Clinics
Hockey Basics, Skills and Drills in game based fun ways. Come and join us at the National Hockey Stadium for some great outdoors fun for kids school years 3-8 this July. This includes hockey and non-hockey activities, with a mini hockey tournament at the end.
These are all at the National Hockey Stadium in Newtown.
PERFORM Holiday Camps - with Stephen Jenness
Both days will have different focus areas and cover different content.
The WHA PERFORM programmes are development days that will connect our aspiring youth with one of the best to have ever done it. The programmes will be led by 250 cap Black Stick Stephen Jenness.
With U13 and U15 representative programmes just around the corner, what better way to learn some new skills and grow your game than from one of the best in the country!

Match cards //
Please keep filling match cards with full name of the players. We have noticed some clubs/schools are filling in either first name or last name which is not appreciated.
To report any injury or health and safety issue, please use the back of the game cards.
Captains are requested to check the information filled in goals result and penalty cards is correct and ensure the score is filled in before they sign the card.
Umpires must place the Match Card in the Match Box provided at each venue. Match Cards can be found at the following locations:
National Hockey Stadium
Tunnel at northern end
Box inside changing room entrance
Technical Bench (middle dugout)
Container in the dugouts
Technical Bench (middle dugout)
Appreciate if schools and clubs use match cards efficiently and take as required for each game rather than in bulk. This way we will not be in a position where teams do not have match cards for games. We regularly stock match cards at every facility.
At NHS all school and club games will have prefilled match cards pinned to notice board by the umpires room (next to Sporting Edge Pro shop).
Sport Wellington Return to Play Fund //
The Sport Wellington ‘Return to Play’ Fund aims to provide funding to go towards COVID related expenses such as appropriate signage, contact tracing, and hygiene requirements to support a return to safe play, active recreation and sport.
- Applicants can claim for COVID-19 related expenses such as the purchase of COVID signage/printing, hygiene items e.g. hand sanitiser and PPE gear, and costs associated with contact tracing apps; if organisations have yet to purchase these, they can do so before 10 July, with the funds to be applied retrospectively
- The costs need to have been incurred between 25 March – 10 July 2020
- Eligible costs of up to $3,000 (exclusive of GST if you are GST registered) will be reimbursed so long as proof of purchase is attached to the application
U18 Representative Campaign //
This year the U18 programme will be structured differently given the significant impact of Covid-19, where most Associations have decided not to deliver in the U18 representative space, we felt it was important we provided a quality development and competition opportunity for our aspiring players, coaches and umpires. Although the cancellation of National tournaments is disappointing for players, this provides us with greater scope to make the programme what we need it to be and better align with our key outcomes.

U15 & U13 In Season Development Programmes //
This year we have made significant changes to the previous U15 and U13 representative programmes to align with our development outcomes and to work within the new model of regional tournaments rather than National tournaments. Rather than selecting teams we are offering two development programmes that run side by side during term 3. For further details check out the website or to register your interest click here for U15s or here for U13s. We will be communicating more details around costs and the festivals in the coming weeks. This will be prior to the development days commencing.
