Wellington Hockey is excited to launch JUMP (Junior Umpire Mentorship Programme), a new initiative designed to support and develop the next generation of umpires.
JUMP is a new initiative aimed at providing junior umpires with hands-on experience, guidance, and support as they take their first steps in officiating. Through regular mentoring, game-day coaching, and access to development opportunities, JUMP will help build confidence, improve decision-making, and grow a strong community of young umpires.
The programme is open to secondary school students who are keen to give umpiring a go or who are already officiating and want to grow their skills. It’s ideal for those umpiring Junior Hockey on Saturday mornings, U15 College Hockey on Wednesdays, or for regular school-appointed umpires looking for further support.
“We want to make umpiring a positive and rewarding experience,” says Kieran, Officials Development Lead at Wellington Hockey. “JUMP is about giving young umpires the chance to learn, make mistakes, get better, and enjoy being part of the game from a different angle.”
Registrations are now open on PlayHQ, and we encourage any keen young umpires, whether they’re just starting out or have a bit of experience already, to JUMP in and get involved!
