After School Hockey Club

For children in Years 1-6 looking for an after school activity, to learn something new, make new friends and have fun.

Join the Club for 2025

Wellington Hockey Association has created a programme called After School Hockey Club (ASHC) which is open to children in Years 1-6 and is run during Terms 1 & 4. Whether your child has enjoyed playing in Funsticks, participated in our Junior Competition, or is keen to try hockey for the first time, this programme offers a fun, active, and engaging experience for all skill levels.

The ASHC provides the perfect opportunity for kids to develop their hockey skills, stay active, and make new friends—all in a friendly, supportive environment. Sessions are designed to help players learn and grow while having a great time after school.

Programme Information

To find out more about this programme, see the information below.

  • Led by coaches in partnership with Junior Hockey Clubs, the After School Hockey Club will provide:

    • Six 45-minute sessions of active sport.

    • A bonus FUN day event where you can bring a friend along to give hockey a go!

    • Sessions designed to develop entry level/basic skills.

    • Opportunity to make new friends.

    • Starts at 3:30pm for Years 1-3 and 4:15pm for Years 4-6 (subject to numbers).

    • Hockey sticks and balls are provided.

    • HAVE FUN​!

  • National Hockey Stadium

    Start: 10th February, 2025

    Finish: 17th March, 2025

    Sessions: 6 sessions + bonus FUN Day on the 24th March, 2025

    Days: Mondays

    ​

    Fraser Park and Karori

    Start: 13th February, 2025

    Finish: 20th March, 2025

    Sessions: 6 sessions + bonus FUN Day on the 27th March, 2025

    Days: Thursdays

    Maidstone (TBC)

  • Age group split and start times will be subject to numbers registered to the programme. Confirmation will be sent out to parents/caregivers prior to the programme starting.

    • Years 1-3 sessions held 3:30pm - 4:15pm.

    • Years 4-6 sessions held 4:15pm - 5:00pm.

    • National Hockey Stadium, Wellington (Mondays).

    • Fraser Park, Lower Hutt (Thursdays)​.

    • Karori Normal School (Thursdays).

    • Maidstone (TBC day)

  • $60 per child for six 45-minute sessions + 1 bonus fun day session.

    • Please bring: water bottle, weather and turf appropriate clothing/footwear (no studs) and a mouth guard.

    • Hockey sticks and balls will be provided during the session.
