About Wellington Hockey Association

The Wellington Hockey Association (WHA) has existed since 1913, and today incorporates the former Wellington Women’s Hockey and Hutt Valley Hockey Associations. WHA through its affiliation to Hockey New Zealand is responsible for the administration, development and promotion of hockey in Wellington. We are committed to providing quality experiences and opportunities to players, officials, coaches and supporters of all ages, gender and levels of ability.

Our Community

Clubs and Schools: The Heart of Hockey

Our 15 clubs and competing secondary schools are the backbone of our sport. Based across the wider Wellington region they allow opportunities for players, coaches, officials, and countless volunteers to participate in the sport we all love.

Competitions

Hockey for Everyone

WHA runs the winter small sticks, secondary school and open grade competitions. These competitions are run at one of our five locations; The National Hockey Stadium in Newtown, NZCT Fraser Park in Lower Hutt, Maidstone Park in Upper Hutt, Elsdon Park in Porirua, and the Coastlands Sports Turf & Pavilion on the Kapiti Coast. Matches are also played in the Wairarapa with Dalefield Hockey Club being invited to our competitions.

Over the summer months a range of competitions are run for the recreational and performance-minded hockey player. These are run at all venues and the competitions are structured to ensure that even players who have never played previously can participate and enjoy our fantastic sport.
