Capital Hockey will be continuing with the JUNIOR CAPs Programme in 2019.

The Junior CAPS programme is the 2nd tier Programme feeding into the SENIOR CAPS and sits above the DEVELOPMENT CAPS (U15s).

ALL programmes take a holistic approach to athlete development and will combine technical skill development, tactical awareness, athlete education, and biomechanical assessments.

Athletes will be worked with over the course of the year from February through to October – this programme is extensive in athlete support and subsequent value. The first training block will be pre season Feb-March on turf sessions. Focusing on technical and tactical development through quality on field training sessions.  Throughout the playing season the focus will shift to education and monitoring of athletes.

Junior CAPs is aligned with the Capital Hockey player pathway and is considered a talent development programme that will better prepare athletes to feed into the Capital Performance environment in the future.

All athletes wanting to be part of this programme must formally apply through the online application. Selections will be made in consultation with representative coaches and relevant personel.

Selections will be based on several aspects including – technical ability, physical attributes, character, coachability. We are focused on finding the right type of athletes, as we understand the key components required to become a top performing hockey player go much further than on field skill level. There will also be a view on the future so the squad make up may include a range of ages. Selections made will be final.

Note selection/non-selection in the Junior CAPs will have no significance in WHA rep selections, this is a performance programme and sits outside the rep campaigns and in no way does being involved in this programme guarantee selection in any teams.

This programme will be limited to a total of 30 athletes (with a split of men and women).
