Summer

Overview

During the Summer months, Wellington Hockey (WHA) organise competitions for participants of all ages and abilities.

The purpose of the Summer Hockey is to entice new players by offering a social and fun element to the sport. We also want to lure our regular players into our summer competitions which allows them to play hockey in a relaxed and non-competitive manner.

WHA operate Summer Hockey out of the 4 venues we manage;

  • National Hockey Stadium, Berhampore
  • Fraser Park, Lower Hutt
  • Maidstone, Upper Hutt
  • Elsdon, Porirua

Small Sticks is for children Year 3 through to Year 8. They play in age divisions to ensure a fair competition, Year 3-4, Year 5-6 and Year 7-8.

The purpose of this competition is to create a development opportunity for players, as well as a fun, safe environment for children to come together and participate an active outdoor sport.

Social

Our most popular competition is our Social Competition. This is for anyone over the age of 16 years, and is a great option for work teams, groups of friends or anyone who wants to play a summer sport.

Depending on numbers, we will split the groups into two pools, first one for beginners and social teams, second pool would be for regular players who are still looking for the social aspect but have the skill. This is to make it more enjoyable for all.
